Proverbs 23:7 says:

For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.

Naturally, this applies to women as well as men but it really does clear up one thing, that “luck” has nothing to do with what you get in life and certainly who you become, but rather it’s what thoughts you given birth to in your mind.

T.D.Jakes in his Women Thou Art Loosed Bible, speaks about the fact that we must purge our thoughts and clean out low self-esteem, pride arrogance, hidden jealousy etc.  He says …

“To use a medical metaphor, the mind is the “placenta” of the spirit man. It holds and nurtures the seeds it has been impregnated with until the time of delivery. If you have the seed of a thought in your mind and you don’t want the child that that seed will produce, your only recourse is to abort it before it is carried to full term.”

In other words, your thoughts have led you to where you are today.  You thought it, mediated it and then manifested or gave birth to it.

So, if you don’t like who your are or your situation, it’s time to change the way you think about yourself, others and life, so you don’t keep reproducing the same kind of “child” as T.D.Jakes put it.

And I for one know just how difficult that can be at times, especially when you can’t see your way clear out of a situation. But you have to ask yourself, are my negative thoughts going to bring me joy and peace? Am I helping myself or those around me by rehearsing the same stories of yesterday and will my current thoughts bring me what I really want in life?

Any dream is possible if you can conceive it first in your mind and, if you don’t like the way your life is now, change what you’re thinking and by doing so, you can literally abort your self depreciating thoughts and immediately conceive new thoughts that will bring you joy and peace now and in the future.

Seeing yourself the way God sees you and speaking what you want your life to look is far more powerful than complaining and whining about the way things are.  And, I’m speaking from personal experience here.

I remember going through a really bad period at work a few years ago and looking back, I tell my husband how much I now feel sorry for him.  I drive and he doesn’t and so I would take him to work and pick him up again and I’m telling you, all I spoke about for months whilst this thing was hanging over my head was the situation.  It was eating me up and no doubt others around me too.

At the time, I told my HR manager that if it took three years, the truth would come out.  It did take three years and ironically, it was when I stopped focusing on the problem … when I stopped talking about it and feeding myself and others with the negative aspects of the situation.

You see, whilst I was desperate for that episode in my life to be over, I was prolonging the situation by feeding on it day and night.  I was speaking about the situation and how wrong things were instead of focusing on “living life” and, what that looked like for me.

It was a real lesson for me and I’ve had to learn to “live” through difficult times and let the joy of the Lord be my strength.

Now, I understand that we are continually manifesting all the time and so it makes more sense to think and speak what you want to happen as opposed to the fears and worries or, what you dislike about you, your life and other people.

What goes in, must come out and so if you want to change your thougts and your life, it’s time to get into the Word and believe those things that God said about you.  His Words are the most positive things you will ever read about yourself and His plans for you are good (Jeremiah 29:11).  It’s time to check out His plans for your life and put a stop to living the plans other people have put in place for you.

It took me years to realise why it was so important for me to read my Bible.  I was always led to believe that I had to read my Bible every day because that’s what I had to do to become a “good” Christian.  It wasn’t until a few years ago during a discussion time with my husband that it hit me …

God keeps emphasising the importance of meditating and speaking His Word because we keep forgetting what He says about us and take more notice of the opinions of others and then we replay the negative video tape over and over with our own silent and negative confessions.

It really is time to start thinking about what you’re thinking about.  As one author once said, “thoughts are things … what are you thinking about?”

The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 12:2 to be transformed by renewing your mind but it’s impossible to be totally transformed without adhering to verse 1:

I beseech you therefore, brethren by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”

Notice how verse two begins with “And.”

This is the reason I state that you can’t do verse two without adhering to verse one first … verse two is a continuation of verse one.

So, what does it mean to “present your bodies a living sacrifice?”

The answer to this and much more will be covered in the upcoming series.

Until then, take some time out to read the Word.  Don’t let the enemy rob you of your blessing because you don’t know the promises of God for your life.

Can you imagine the director of a movie shouting “Lights!” “camera!” … and then just stopping there?

What’s missing and what would be the result? 

There would be no action and therefore, there would be no movie! 

I’m not a huge movie fan but for you movie fans out there, I know you’d be distraught.  But guess what … too many of us are living our lives on the “lights, camera” and no action scenario.

Many of you may have read my inspiring story which may even have compelled you to sign up for The Influential Woman Newsletter which, is great but in order for me to change some things in my life, I had to take some serious action.

Without the action, I would still be reading, and praying, and waiting. 

And guess, what?  Nothing would have happened.  Actually, it would, I would just have had to live on the emotional rollercoaster of feeling low every time my past decided to present itself so vividly in my mind.  But I’m grateful that even at the age of 15, after the death of my Nan, whilst I had no idea how it worked, I grasped the concept of the power of perspective.

In my own childish way, I understood that by framing in my mind how I wanted my future to look, it would make me feel better here and now.  With that new perspective on life, I’d be able to think more clearly and take appropriate action toward the life that I so desperately wanted.

And, I would surround myself with friends who would cheer me up when I was down- the great thing is, these guys I used to hang around with at School, didn’t even have to try!  They were just naturally funny and I’m grateful to God for such great friends in those days.

I learned I had to read things that challenged my thinking and the ways of doing things I’d become accustomed to and I would have loved back then to have had daily inspiration via a PC or mobile phone to keep me motivated when I occasionally got down … I know, I’m showing my age now.

And this brings me to a serious point and I’ll use a real life example to illustrate:

I remember once I received an email from one of my subscribers to say that she had unsubscribed from my newsletter because “I didn’t expect to receive so many emails!” 

Those were the days when I was sensitive to “unsubscribe emails,” forutnately, not anymore.

But I had to remind my readers that change is not like playing a game of Monopoly!  If I send you something and it’s not for you, just pass go and still collect your £200 - or $200 if you’re in the US. :-)  since I’m sure you don’t read every article in you’re daily newspaper - like the sports section for many of us women - but you still read what’s relevant to you and pass on the rest.  

We have to remember not to throw the baby out with the bathwater!

Jim Rohn, motivational speaker, taught me, “always be a gatherer of good ideas.”  Even if you don’t like the preacher, teacher or whoever, if they’re speaking truth, listen to what they have to say since in amongst everything you don’t like, might be the pearl that could change your life forever. 

My mission is to inspire you to take some action!  The kind of action that’s going to move you from where you are today, to where you want to be tomorrow. 

So remember,

“It’s not the lights and the camera that completes the movie, the final cut is in the action”

Ever justified your actions using this line … “it’s not my fault!”

I confess, I have … too many times in the past but I remember years ago, my manager used to say to me, “stop justifying Trish and take responsibility.” 

And sometimes we need reminding that the decisions we made yesterday have brought us to where we are today so instead of crying “it’s not my fault,” we have to ask the question “if it’s not my fault, how did I get here?”  Hard to acknowledge, but it’s true.

But what I want to focus on in this article is the energy that is drained from us when we adopt a culture of blame.  Instead of taking on a new perspective into how things could be in the future, we respond with finger pointing, bitter arguements with others and rehearsing “he said, she said,” all of which is really designed only to do one thing …

Distract you from your purpose in life and lead you down the wrong path.

And I know we laugh about there being “no fury like a woman’s scorn,” but ultimately this fury will lead us to self-distruct.  I mean, I can’t imagine for one minute what life would be like getting up day in and day out going to the office to the job I hate … again.

Ever been there?  I have.  And I became so resentful with many of those around me, that I lost all passion for my job and in doing so, lost my sense of direction.

But the truth is, the only person who was losing out because of all of this resentment was me!  My colleagues around me just got on with life while for me, it felt like every waking moment of my day was to live to get out of that place.

But it dawned on me on day, that I was letting my feelings control me and therefore, unintentionally, my destiny, and I didn’t like the way my feelings were managing my life - literally. 

So I decided to stop blaming and justifying and focus on what I really wanted.  And one of the decisions I made, was to step back and look at “what was my fault.”  By doing this, I could make a conscious decision not to go in that direction again and end up with the same old results. 

In the words of W.L. Bateman:

If you keep on doing what you’ve always done,
you’ll keep on getting what you’ve always got.

So I hope I’ve encouraged you to take stock of the things you can start taking responsiblity for today and use that blame energy to make a 360 degree u-turn in the direction towards your dreams.

Make it your fault to live on purpose, today.

How to Save Yourself from Negative Influences

Stephen Pierce, Internet Marketing, speak and author, in his book”Secrets To Creating Wealth” speaks about the Power of the Third Influence being anything that you allow into your life that will have a long-term affect. 

This could be what you watch on TV, what you listen to on the radio, what you put into your body whether it’s food, alcohol or drugs.

A bullet remains in Stephen Pierce’s leg from a shooting some years ago, as a reminder of the negative influences that he allowed into his life, but as he puts it, “the Lord spared my life” since the bullet wasn’t meant for his leg, it was meant for his head!

The fact is, we are all being influenced by something or some one every waking moment of our day, but it’s up to you to filter out what you watch, read and listen to since these, ‘third influences’ as Stephen Pierce calls them will have a long-term impact on your future as well as the future of those you have the opportunity of influencing. 

Yes, this means you have the power to influence your children, spouse, employees, nephews, nieces and anyone else with whom you come into personal contact, negatively or positively. 

I often hear people say “a little of this or that won’t hurt.”  But, the alcoholic didn’t start out drinking a bottle of vodka, he or she started with just ’a little.’   

Many affairs are probably started with just ‘a little’ kiss at the Company’s Christmas party (I’ve witnessed too many of these!) and the debts may have started with just ’a little’ loan to tide you over.

Can you see what ‘a little’ can do? 

And what are the little things you are doing on a daily basis that have now become habits that are having a negative impact on your life as well as those around you?  And to what extent are these negative influences having on putting a stop to you living your dreams.

You may not have a choice about who you work with, and there may even be aspects of your environment that you think you can’t change, but let me tell you, you can change what you “ponder” and what you speak. 

My little girl came home from School the other day and said “mummy, words are the most powerful thing on earth.”  I said “what!?”  Thinking she was going to say that’s what you and daddy have been talking about.  She said “that’s what the teacher said in assembly.”

No wonder the enemy has tried so hard to get her out of there.  He knows she being fed right!!

But, I digress.  If a child can accept and understand that, it’s important that we as adults stop accepting that ”words are just words.”  The Bible tells us that they are spirit and they are life.”  John 6:63 KJV

So, how do you get rid of negative influences?

Let me illustrate by way of example…

If you put green die into a jug of water, naturally, the water will turn green.  If you keep adding clear water to the jug of green died water, what’s going to happen over time?  The water will eventually become clear again because no more green die is being added to the jug of water. 

Our minds work on the same principle.  I know it’s impossible not to be exposed to words and pictures that can have negative consequences, but you can ensure that you are influenced by more positives than negatives by reading, watching and listening to things that are edifiying to the soul.  And by soul, I mean the mind, since so many people confuse this with spirit. 

You can listen to songs that lift you up, listen to motivational and inspiring audio and read books that are intended to have a positive impact on your life.  And more importantly, you have to keep reading the Word of God.  This is where you’ll find the promises that God outlined for you even before you were born.
 
Doing this, will literally change your outlook on life because what you see and what you speak is what you get in life. 

In simple terms, this means you literally have the power to “see” and “speak” your way out of your current situation but you have to put ”the right stuff” into your mind in the first place since what you’re thinking about will eventually become what you speak about and what you speak about will ultimately manifest itself in your life. 

Be commiteed to speaking the truths contained in God’s Word and when what you’re thinking contradicts what the Word of God says, you just keep saying what God said.

Recently, I’ve been listening and watching Bill Winston and I highly recommend that you go check out his broadcast and they buy his program called “Speak The Word Only.”

It will make you think twice about the words you allow to come out of your mouth when he explains to you that words are not “just words,” but words are spirit.

I particularly enjoyed the “No More Toil” series.  Go and edify yourself so you’ll have more power to influence your children, husband, work colleagues and anyone esle with whom you come into contact with, in a positive way.

Remember Whitney Houston’s Song … “The Greatest Love of All?”

It’s one of my favorite songs which actually made me appreciate why it is that some women love who they are whilst others dislike who they are, despite the compliments from others about their looks, their figure, their beautiful skin and hair.

Whitney Houston sings …
“I believe the children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way,
show them all the beauty they possess inside…”

Well, this is where the building of our self-esteem and self-image begins … as children!
I believe it’s so easy to forget when we look at our little bundle of joy or our toddler or our teenager and remember that these children are the men and women of tomorrow.  So, the words we speak into their lives will have far reaching effects into the future.  Nonetheless, it’s not our children I want to speak about now, it’s us!

The first commandment in the Bible is to ”love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and ‘your neighbour as yourself.”  Luke 10:27 

So, let me ask you … “how much do you love yourself?”  I hope it’s a lot and I hope you’re not too afraid or ashamed to say it either! 

But, there are many reasons why we may not love ourselves as much as we should and many reasons unfortunately come from the words other people have spoken into our lives, but they also come from other insecurities such as age, looks etc.

When I turned 40 over a year ago, I was so looking forward to all the fuss I knew my family would lavish on me (yep, I’m an extrovert) but, I refused to repeat the mantra I hear many other people saying … “it’s all downhill from here” etc. 

I admit, I wish I were a little slimmer (okay a lot slimmer) and there are some of my assets I wish were a little less prominent, but the truth is, Trish loves Trish!  And I’m glad I do because I will be wearing this “me” for many more years to come!

But the real benefit of loving yourself isn’t to self boast or to be prideful, but it really does reflect the way you feel and the way you treat other people (your neighbour).  I’ve taught my daughter that when other children are deliberately nasty to her to consider why they might be being spiteful, because children show their hurts too.

With adults, it might be over-indulgence whether this is in chocolate, dressing up, make-up or obsessive tendencies.  Not that there is anything wrong with chocolate, dressing up or make-up, but it is an issue when they are used to hide what is going on deep down inside … in other words to comfort you.

Anyway, did you answer my question?  “How much do your love yourself?”

If you’re not feeling very loved by YOU right now, take note of what is making you feel sad.  What is it you’re saying that you don’t want and start thinking about and saying the way you would like things to be.  I guarantee there will be a shift in the way you think about yourself and other people and, if you have children, it will impact on your children and your childrens, children.  

Now go give yourself some talk theapy!  This is what David did when he was down “Bless the Lord O my soul: and all that is within me bless His holy name.” Psalm 103:1

I have been thoroughly spoilt today beginning with my husband who gave myself and our daughter breakfast in bed.  My sister prepared some food for a family get together and then my family including my mum, dad, siblings, nephews and nieces and, my friends who have just showered me with love.

Elizabeth saying, “I could never imagine at my age that I would ever be able to bear a child, particularly since the doctors have told me I’m barren.”

And Mary saying “but Elizabeth, who on earth has ever heard of someone conceiving a baby without having sex first,”  (blush, blush).  “I’m not even married!”

Here we are in the first chapter of the Gospel of Luke looking at two impossible situations … impossible to the human anyway, and as for poor Zachariah, despite the fact that he had been praying for a child (verse 13: “your prayer has been heard”), he was still in disbelief when the angel Gabriel told him that his wife Elizabeth would bear a son.

Zachariah went as far as questioning the angel based on what his personal and limited assessment of the situation was … “How can I be sure of this?  I am an old man and my wife is well on in years.”

After speaking to Mary and explaining to her how she would give birth to the Son of God, the angel Gabriel told Mary how her relative, although old and barren would also bear a child and was in fact already six months pregnant.  “For” the angel said,

“nothing is impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37)

And when the angel said “nothing,” he really meant “nothing!”

So, what impossible situation are you facing today that you’re looking at from your own limited assessment of the situation.  Is it maybe that you want a child and the doctors have told you “it’s never going to happen.”  Or is it that you have bills you can’t pay, sickness that you need healing for.

Whatever it is, remember that “with God, nothing is impossible.”

Still struggling to believe this … I encourage you to read Luke chapter one for yourself and just ponder the situations of Mary, Elizabeth and Zachariah.  All three in an impossible situation and yet God in His unlimited power reversed the natural inability for them to become parents at that time in their lives and peformed the supernatural to bring about  miraculous results.

The God of Mary, Elizabeth and Zachariah is still the same God today, meaning He has the supernatural ability to reverse your own personal situation, whatever that might be.

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born
I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations”
                                                                                                                     Jeremiah 1:5

This was God’s message to the prophet Jeremiah.  But as God’s chosen women, we shouldn’t make this a gender issue – it applies to you too! 

But just in case you’re unfamiliar with the story of Jeremiah, Jeremiah was appointed by God to be a prophet both to Judah and to the nations.  However, he objected to his appointment as a prophet on the grounds that he did not know how to speak because he was only a child.  In other words, he felt he wasn’t eloquent or experienced enough to accept his appointment.

And God’s response to this…

“Say not, I am only a youth: for you shall go to all whom I shall send you, and whatever I command you, you shall speak.” (Jeremiah 1:7)

I mean, what a sophisticated reprimand and praise all rolled in to one!  How on earth could Jeremiah not accept his appointment when it was put like this! 

God was telling Jeremiah that his experience was irrelevant because a) his appointment was from God, b) God would be with him and c) He would tell Jeremiah what he should say. 

So, the next time you find yourself:

• Second guessing your abilities
• Wondering whether you will ever find the direction and purpose for your life
• Questioning whether God’s calling on your life is His voice or your own
• Feeling that you’re too much
• Thinking that you’re not enough

… Remember God’s message to Jeremiah and remind yourself that you were chosen before the world began and whatever God’s plan for your life, He never expected you to go it alone!

You may have all of these questions, thoughts and feelings for a very good reason, but unless you listen to what the Holy Spirit is telling you - as Jeremiah did - when you’re in doubt, these thoughts, questions and feelings will be the very “things” that unintentionally get in the way of God establishing His purpose for your life and therefore hinder your destiny.

Can you imagine if Jeremiah had not been listening to the voice of God?  He may have missed his opportunity because God’s message to Judah and the nations was immanent.  God needed a messenger now! 

And like most of us are “oh so” guilty of at times, Jeremiah could have spent time asking others what they thought about his ability and standing in the community, with a view only to decide it must have been God when those from whom he sought counsel approved of his appointment. 

By then, God may have already appointed someone else and Jeremiah would have had to wait for another opportunity.

But notice I didn’t say God would have given up on Jeremiah because He never would!  He’s the God of the second, third and fourth chance so if you’ve been feeling lately that your life seems to lack direction and you know you’ve missed opportunities for fear of taking action when you know you should have done, I have some great news for you…

God Hasn’t Changed His Mind About You!

And despite all of your doubts, fears and apprehensions, God want and needs you to know and understand that before you were born, He knew and approved of you [as His chosen instrument], and before you were born He separated and set you apart (Jeremiah 1:5Amp).

The enemy may have made many attempts to “disqualify” you from receiving all that God has planned for you, including lying to you about your worth.  But God needs you to listen to Him, to stand on His Word and to claim victory over every negative situation in your life.   

ACTION CHALLENGE: 

By renewing your mind through God’s Word, you’ll begin to experience the life-changing potential that was deposited within you before the foundation of the world.   

So this weeks Action Challenge will help you lay a solid foundation for the exciting journey that you have ahead of you.  It may be second nature to some of you, and even tasteless to others, but this is something I had to learn the hard way; so really, I want to save you from the pain… 

Pick up your Bible and start reading…

…even if it’s only a few verses per day and spend some time speaking to God.

So I urge you to get to KNOW Him who KNEW you before you were even conceived.

This book of the Law (the Word) shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it.  For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.  [Joshua 1:8 - Amplified Version]

Many Christians stumble on the part that says "that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it."

Some people live by religious rituals that lack dept because they’re still trying to ensure they observe The Ten Commandments, follow Proverbs and so on - which, by the way I am not dismissing as unimportant so keep reading.

But life wasn’t intendended to be full of religious rituals and if you’ve been an observer and doer of legalistic rituals - maybe without even realizing it - today is your day to be set free! 

Jesus’ simple commandment to use was this … 

But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you"  (MATTHEW 6:33)

So how will this help you to make your way prospersous?

By putting the Kingdom of God and His righteousness first, you will first of all know and experience God’s purpose for your life and second, because you’re walking in His Will and His way, "observing and doing" what is written in His Word will become second nature.

Sadly, most people believe that by doing good, it makes them righteous but it’s by being righteous (being in right-standing with God and living according to His will for your life) that enables you to do good (or, what is right), not the other way around.
